Embrace the 'basketball buzz' this weekend in the Sault

The basketball buzz in our country is strong right now with the Toronto Raptors. Basketball is the fasting growing sport in Canada, and some of the top young prospects local and provincially will be competing for the Ontario Cup this weekend, right here in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Steel City Slam basketball club worked with Tourism Sault Ste. Marie to secure hosting the 2019 Ontario Cup this weekend (May 31-June 2). With 30 teams travelling to the Sault from all over Ontario, it is going to be a great weekend of basketball.

Steel City Slam has 2 teams competing in this year’s event, and one of those teams (comprised of mainly U-16 players) has been ranked 7th in the province at in Division 1.

The team has a roster that is well represented by students from: Korah Collegiate, St. Mary’s, Superior Heights, White Pines, and Central Algoma. A ‘true representation’ of the city, Steel City Slam will be vying for provincial supremacy beginning tonight. For a complete game schedule, please click here.
