COUGARS EYE OCAA PLAYOFF SPOT

The Sault College Cougars have less than a week to prepare for a game that not only has playoff implications but a post-season date on home court at stake. A weekend split has Sault College with a 7-4 record with one game to play in the regular season, at home to the last-place Algoma University Thunderbirds on Feb. 26. A win by the Cougars over Algoma will not only solidify a post-season spot but give Sault College home court for a Feb. 28 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association West Region playoff game. "We've got time to prepare for this and we know what we have to do," said Thomas Cory, head coach of the Sault College men. Playing on the road last weekend, the Cougars beat the Redeemer Royals before losing to the Niagara Knights. Niagara now leads the West Region standings with an 8-2 record. Then's it the Lambton Lions at 7-3, the Sault and the Fanshawe Falcons both at 7-4, the St. Clair Saints at 5-5, Reeemer at 2-9 and Algoma at 1-10.

Fanshawe closes out its regular season schedule tonight at home to Niagara. Lambton has two games to play, taking on Niagara and St. Clair. HOOP SCOOP: Soo native Jen Perugini is having a strong sophomore season with the Youngstown State Penguins of the Horizon League. Perugini recently won Horizon League player-of-the-week honours by scoring 47 points in a pair of games. All together this season, the former St. Mary's high school star is averaging 11 points per game, which is 12th in the Horizon League. She's also fourth in the league in blocked shots and fifth in rebounding. From the free-throw line, Perugini is shooting 88 per cent, which is eighth in the nation among Division 1 women players.
