It was a successful opening day for Korah and St. Mary’s in senior girl’s high school basketball on Wednesday night.
Both schools picked up wins on the opening day of the season as the schedule opened at both the senior and junior levels.
At St. Mary’s, Emma Hendrie had 14 points while Mispon Martin chipped in with 11 as the Knights beat White Pines 44-18 in the senior game.
Rylee Dunbar had eight points for White Pines.
Meanwhile, at Superior Heights, Taylor Elliott had nine points and Kaylin Kovakko added eight as Korah beat Superior Heights 55-27.
In junior action, Mercedes Mazzuca had eight points as St. Mary’s beat White Pines 30-18. Sadie Dorrance had 10 points for the Wolverines.
Wednesday’s other junior game saw Superior Heights get 22 points from Sophie Grawbarger in a 47-29 win over Korah. Jillian Ferguson chipped in with nine points for Superior Heights.
Ester Yule had 10 points for the Colts.
Action continues three days next week, beginning Tuesday night as Superior Heights hosts St. Mary’s and Korah hosts White Pines. Tipoff for the junior games is set for 5:15 with the senior games to follow at 7 p.m.
