Colts capture city basketball title

The Korah Colts will head into NOSSA with a perfect record locally

A 16-point performance from Taylor Elliot paced the Korah Colts to a city title on Friday night.

The Colts beat the Superior Heights Steelhawks 42-32 Friday night to cap off a perfect season locally for the Colts. 

Gracie Sloss chipped in with nine points for the Colts, who won the fifth consecutive city title for the school at the senior level. 

After going 9-0 in regular season action, the Colts beat White Pines 49-16 on Tuesday night to advance to the city final.

Bree Hodkinson had nine points for Superior Heights. Taryn Greco added eight points.

Superior Heights got to the city final following a 41-26 semifinal win over St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

In Friday’s junior final, Hannah Heimonen had nine points as Superior Heights beat St. Mary’s 32-17. 

Liz Elkas added five points for the Steelhawks.

Madison Boucher had seven points to lead St. Mary’s.

Superior Heights beat Korah 39-29 in one of two junior semifinal games on Tuesday night.

St. Mary’s got to the junior final thanks to a 38-22 win over White Pines in Tuesday’s other semi. 

The Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics (NOSSA) tournaments are set for the weekend on three fronts.

Korah is set to host the AA event which will feature the city-champion Colts in senior and Superior Heights in junior.

St. Mary’s will play in the AAA NOSSA tournament in Sudbury, hosted by Lasalle.

White Pines will play in the single-A tournament at both the junior and senior levels and host the event.

Schedules for the two-day events are expected to be complete early next week.
