City finals set in high school basketball

The city finals are set for boys high school basketball.

In senior high school basketball semifinal action on Wednesday, the Kroah Colts got 14 points from Matt Kment in a tight 61-58 win over White Pines.

The Colts also got 12 points from Zac Zeppa in addition to nine-point performances from Jordan Robinson-Wright and Donny Harris.

Logan Whitmell led White Pines with 16 points while Bishop Whitmell added 15.

Jake Rushon had 13 points for the Wolverines, all in the second half.

Wednesday’s other semifinal saw Joey Ruscio scored 14 points as the St. Mary’s Knights advanced to the city final to face Korah after a 56-50 win over Superior Heights.

Brennan Mitchell added 13 points for the Knights, which included a trio of three-pointers early on in the contest.

Jackson Hart led Superior Heights with 13 points while Gabe Spina and Connor Malmoff had 12 points each.

The Knights took a narrow lead through three quarters before breaking the game open a bit in the fourth quarter to pick up the win.

In junior action, White Pines got 13 points from Chase Peplow in a 54-27 win over Superior Heights in one of two junior semifinal games on Wednesday.

Michael Ferlaino added eight points for the Wolverines while Lucas Pacione had nine points for Superior Heights.

The other junior semifinal saw Korah beat St. Mary’s 71-58.

Korah’s Michael Nicoletta led all scorers in the game with 24 points while Jak Cameron had 17 points for Korah, which included four three-pointers.

Cameron Barbeau had 16 points for the Colts.

Chris Viotto hit six three-pointers and had 22 points for St. Mary’s. Johnny Ivic chipped in with 14 points.

The city finals are set for Friday night at White Pines.
