Championship Sunday arrives

After a pair of entertaining semi-finals at the AAA midget national championships, undefeated College Antoine-Girouard (6-0) from the Quebec region will battle the Pacific representative Calgary Northstars (5-1) for the title.

The championship game will be televised live nationally on The Sports Network (TSN).

In the one semi-final, College Antoine-Girouard battled the Atlantic's St. John's Maple Leafs into an overtime period before collecting a 3-2 victory.

St. John's built a 2-0 lead after two periods courtesy of first and second period goals by David Lewis and Scott Brophy, respectively.

A determined Calgary squad returned for the third period and Alexandre Imbeault, who finished with three points, scored his first of two goals 22 seconds into the frame. Imbeault tied the game at the 12:45 mark.

Robin Beauchemin scored the winner at 4:52 of overtime. Etienne Morier and Mathieu Aubin added a pair of assists for College Antoine-Girouard.

In the other semi-final, Calgary defeated the West's Yorkton Harvest 2-1.

Kevin Wowk opened the scoring for Calgary midway through the first period before Yorkton's Chris Korchinski quickly replied to end the period tied 1-1. Jay Beagle's goal for Calgary at 52 seconds of the second period proved to be the game winner.
