The Central Algoma Secondary School Dance Squad attended the Ontario Secondary School Dance Fest in Windsor Ontario last weekend.

The mission statement of OSS Dance Fest is to provide an educational forum for dance students and dance educators as they develop an appreciation for the art form of dance through collaborative creation, performance, feedback and workshops.

Each entry in the competition must be solely choreographed by high school students with no interference from their instructors. The event included a competition, a freestyle competition, workshops in various styles and two showcases featuring the University of Windsor dance team, Dance Fest Alumni and local talent.

The event was an amazing opportunity for the CASS dancers. It was a wonderful way to bring a variety of dancers from different background and skill level to celebrate and support each other doing what they love!

The CASS dancers earned six first place finishes and one 3rd place finish at the competition. The team also won an Overall Award of Excellence for their dance squad dance # flawless.

Hailey Callahan, Hanna Harriman and Kaija Karhi won an award for Outstanding Choreography for a trio. Cade Greer, Maddy Couvillon, Rayden Hall, Emma Gamble and Mack Gowlett won an overall award for excellence for their small group Bang Bang.

Graduating student Cade Greer also stood out as CASS’s Most Valuable Dancer. Dance Fest recognized Cade with awards for STAR POWER and STAND OUT DANCER. Cade Greer graduates from CASS this year and will be greatly missed for his contribution to the dance program at CASS and at Central Dance Studio.

The Dance Squad represented CASS extremely well taking the Ontario Secondary Student Dance Fest organizers and audience members by surprise. Other team members are Megan Bringleson, Carly Jeffrey, Rylee Clark, Kenzie Alton, Hope Wells, Bailey Shaw, Cassie Greer and Abby Hicks.

Dance coaches are Alicia Annett and Kassidy Henderson were extremely proud of the dancers hard work and creative and collaborative skills!
