Canadian Native fastball championships begin today

With games scheduled for both fastball fields in Garden River and at Sinclair Yards, 28 teams in three divisions will battle for a national championship in the men's A, men's B and women's categories.

After last night's tournament draws, the Garden River men's A division team, featuring world-class pitcher Darren Zack, open the double elimination tournament today at 5 p.m. against Muscowpetung from Saskatchewan. The Garden River Women's Elite team plays at 12:30 p.m. against the Moravian Ladies while the men's B team hits the field at 11a.m. against the Key Warriors.

Today and tomorrow, all men's A games will be played at the Garden River A field while the women will occupy the Garden River B field. The men's B division will play their games from Sinclair Yards.

On playoff Sunday, all games will be played at the Garden River complex with the semi-finals scheduled for the morning. The final games are scheduled to begin with the women at 1:30 p.m., the men's B final at 3 p.m. and the men's A championship game at 4:30 p.m.

The Garden River fields are located just off Highway 17. Fans can turn north off Highway 17 to Moccasin Street and onto the field for parking. Tournament staff will use the parking facility located on Hiawatha Drive.
