Busy weekend for basketball teams at Sault College, Algoma

Sault College's teams played home games against Conestoga while Algoma's teams were on the road for weekend games

Basketball action was at the forefront for athletics for both Sault College and Algoma University over the weekend.

In Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) basketball action, both Sault College teams were in action.

The men’s basketball team dropped both games to Conestoga.

On Saturday night, Avery Sutton had 20 points as Conestoga beat Sault College 73-69.

Efosa Agbonze chipped in with 14 points while Jalen Roberts and Isaiah Edwards had 12 points each for Conestoga.

Simon Wal had 18 points for Sault College. Matthew Kment, Jaylyn Moore-Tucker, and Mahier Mohamed added 10 points each.

On Sunday, Roberts had 17 points as Conestoga capped off the weekend with a 67-57 win.

Agbonze added 16 points in the win.

Wal led Sault College with 14 points.

On the women’s side, Conestoga jumped out to a 41-12 lead by halftime and won the weekend opener on Saturday by a 75-35 margin.

Jamila Beckford led Conestoga with 26 points while Megan White had 16 points.

Taylor Elliot led Sault College with nine points in Saturday’s game.

On Sunday, White had 21 points as Conestoga picked up a 74-40 win.

Maddy Weber added 14 points.

Andrea Gorman had 11 points for Sault College.

Both teams return to action next weekend on the road against St. Clair.

Sault College’s women’s hockey team picked up a pair of wins over the weekend against Notre Dame.

Sault College picked up a 6-3 win on Friday night before capping off the weekend with a 6-5 win on Saturday.

Next action for the Sault College women’s hockey team is Nov. 23 on the road against Loyola Chicago.

Sault College’s men’s hockey team picked up a win and a tie over the weekend on the road against Liberty University.

On Friday night, Sault College skated to a 5-5 tie before picking up a 4-2 win on Saturday.

The men’s hockey team returns to action on Nov. 15 on the road against Grand Valley.

Both Algoma University basketball teams were on the road in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) action.

In women’s action on Friday night, Christina Buttenham had 17 points as McMaster beat Algoma 79-56.

Arianne Soriano had 15 points for McMaster.

Karly Fracalanza led Algoma with 21 points.

On Saturday night, Samantha Keltos had 15 points as Brock beat Algoma 66-50.

Fracalanza led Algoma with 14 points.

In Friday’s men’s game, Algoma dropped an 83-53 decision against McMaster.

Jordan Henry led McMaster with 18 points while Damiann Prehay and Tristan Lindo had 13 points each.

Nicholas Gehlen led Algoma with 20 points. Peter Wetuvanga added 15 point.

On Saturday, Tyler Brown had 24 points as Brock beat Algoma 92-56. Godsman Kwakwah added 17 points for Brock.

Gehlen led Algoma with 24 points.

Both Algoma teams return to action on Nov. 15 at home against Carleton.
