The Elks 341 Minor Bantam Black Sox traveled to Stratford this past weekend and took part in the Annual 14U baseball tournament.  The locals went 1-1-1 in the Round Robin and finished 5th out of 10 teams, missing out on the Semi-Finals by a single point.

A gutsy tie against the eventual tournament champions and a shutout win in the final round robin game highlighted a very good weekend performance.

Ingersoll jumped out early but the locals fought back to keep the game close at 6-4 heading to the last inning. A rough 7th inning however, led to the defeat.

Game 2: Soo Black Sox  7  Guelph Royals  7

After a slow start the Sox found themselves trailing 7-2 going into the bottom of the last inning. The Elks squad managed to stay composed and score 5 runs on 4 hits to gain a tie in this match-up against the eventual tournament champion Guelph squad.

Malcolm McGugan had 2 singles and the game tying RBI, while Andrew Conrad added 2 singles.

Game 3: Soo Black Sox  6  Kitchener Panthers 0

From the start, lefty Malcolm McGugan had the Panthers off balance. Playing with a solid team defense supporting the cause, McGugan threw a complete game 3 hit shutout with 7 strikeouts on 79 pitches. He also added 2 singles and scored 2 runs of his own.

Carter Gallivan added 2 singles while Matthew Gagne added a single and 2 key RBIs.
