Basketball, hockey action keeps Sault College teams busy

The men's hockey team swept a weekend series in ACHA action with Michigan Tech

The men’s and women’s teams in both hockey and basketball for Sault College were in action over the weekend with the men’s hockey team picking up a pair of convincing wins.

In Friday’s opener, Max Khull had three goals and three assists as Sault College beat Michigan Tech 11-2.

Ryan Vendramin added a goal and four assists while Austin Rowe had two goals and two assists for Sault College.

Leading the game 3-1 through 20 minutes, Sault College scored six times in the second en route to the win.

Daniel Heelis chipped in with two goals and an assist for Sault College.

Bradley Thrower also had a pair of goals.

Goaltender Justin Richer made 29 saves while his counterpart, Drew Eaton, made 51 saves for Michigan Tech.

Kyle Callaway and Austin Mahoney had a goal and an assist for Michigan Tech.

On Saturday, Vendramin had four goals and two assists as Sault College capped the weekend with a 15-2 win.

Mark Tassone chipped in with three goals and two assists while Rowe had two goals and three assists for Sault College.

The Sault College women’s hockey team was on the road in Thunder Bay for three games over the weekend, returning home with an 0-3 record.

Sault College dropped a 5-0 decision to Lakehead in the weekend opener.

Lakehead held a 2-0 lead through two periods before scoring three times in the third to break the game open.

In game two, Mackenzie Monico opened the scoring for Sault College in the first period against Lakehead and the two schools would enter the third tied at one.

Lakehead scored four unanswered goals in the third to pick up a 5-1 win.

Facing Assiniboine Community College to wrap up the weekend, Sault College dropped a 4-1 decision.

Rachel Barban had the lone goal for Sault College.

In men’s Ontario Colleges Athletic Association basketball action on Saturday, Romar Subban had 25 points and four steals as Sheridan beat Sault College 100-71.

Nick Campbell added 24 points and seven rebounds. Keenan Danso-Dapaah chipped in with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.

Stephen Miller had 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds for Sault College. Tristen Kamel also had 14 points.

Kevon Clarke had eight points and 20 rebounds for Sault College.

In Saturday’s women’s game, Theresa Brown had 18 points as Sheridan picked up a 90-14 win.

Curryl Watson chipped in with 14 points.

Skylar Toms had six points and six rebounds for Sault College.

On Sunday in men’s action, Subban and Campbell had 21 points each as Sheridan won 101-74.

Danso-Dapaah added 20 points for Sheridan in the win.

Jaylyn Tucker-Moore had 24 points and 12 rebounds for Sault College.

Simon Wall chipped in with 16 points.

In Sunday’s women’s game, Jaedyn Dunkley had 18 points as Sheridan picked up a 77-49 win.

Camila Larach added 16 points and 11 rebounds for Sheridan.

Tomas had 21 points and seven rebounds for Sault College while Taylor Elliot chipped in with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

The Sault College basketball reams wrap up the road portion of their OCAA schedules beginning on Feb. 8 in action against Niagara.
