Area athletes successful at NOSSA track meet

NOSSA track and field is in the books in North Bay and area athletes enjoyed success
running sprinter

Central Algoma Secondary School’s Emily Good paced a strong stretch for area athletes at the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA) track and field championships in North Bay this week.

Good set a pair of NOSSA records and won three events in the two day championship that ended on Thursday.

Good set new records in the senior girls discus (36.59M) and shot put (12.49m).

She also won the senior girls javelin with a throw of 37.36m.

Olivia Orazietti won a pair of events, setting a new record in the junior girls 100m (12.88 seconds) and also winning the 200m (27.23 seconds).

Taylor Elliott of Korah set a new record in the junior girls shot put (12.15m) and also winning the discus (27.70m).

Korah’s Andrew Budau won three events, taking top spot in the junior boys 800m (2:03.54), 1,500m 4:20.91 and 3,000m (10:02.27).

In other senior girls events, Emily Calibani of St. Mary’s won the 100m with a time of 12.58 seconds. Taryn Lamorie of St. Mary’s won the 200m (27.17) and the long jump (5.14m)

Sila McGuffin of Korah won the senior girls high jump with a jump of 1.53m.

St. Mary’s also won the 4X100m relay with a time of 51.01.

In senior boys events, Zach Senecal of St. Mary’s won the 200m with a time of 23.16 seconds while Max Fisher of Superior Heights won the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.00 seconds.

White Pines runner Jerryd McLeod won the 2,000m open steeplechase with a time of 6:18.56.

St. Mary’s won the boys 4X100m with a time of 45.03 seconds.

Ben Baggs won the junior boys 100m hurdles with a time of 15.46 seconds and also won the triple jump (11.95m).

Skyler Miceli of St. Mary’s won the junior boys 100m event (11.61 seconds).

Other junior girls winner included:

  • Korah’s Hanna Jodoin – 11.31m in triple jump
  • Korah’s Shea-Lynn Gioia – 4.91m in long jump
  • Superior Heights’ Samantha Dinter – 26.99m in javelin

In midget boys events, local winners included:

  • Korah’s Caleb Patteri – 5.74m in long jump
  • White Pines’ Caleb Dawson – 47.61m in javelin
  • Korah – 50.59 seconds in 4X100 relay

In midget girls events, local winners were:

  • St. Mary’s Alyssa Rizzo – 4.96m in long jump
  • Korah’s Maya Lortie – 13.25 seconds in 80m hurdles
  • St. Mary’s Jacey Duguay – 9.81m in triple jump
  • St. Mary’s – 54.55 seconds in 4X100m
