Aquatic Club opens long course season

Sixteen Sault Ste Marie Aquatic Club swimmers traveled to Sudbury for a two-day regional competition over the weekend for the first Long Course competition of the season. Head coach Rob Moreside was pleased with the results.

Sixteen Sault Ste Marie Aquatic Club swimmers traveled to Sudbury for a two-day regional competition over the weekend for the first Long Course competition of the season.

Head coach Rob Moreside was pleased with the results.

"This meet was a great opportunity for many of our athletes to begin their preparation as we head into our long course championships season," notes Coach Moreside.

Top performer at the meet was Wendy Oleskiw, 13, posting three first-place finishes, in the 200 and 400-metre freestyle and the 200-metre individual medley. She also had silver medal wins in the 200-metre butterfly and 400 individual medley.

Other gold medal performances were turned in by Carrie Lynne Smale, 9, in the 50-metre freestyle, Peter Olinger, 15, in the 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle, Sarah Theodossiou, 12, in the 50-metre freestyle, Alex Bonne, 17, in the 800 freestyle, and Joshua Lawrence, 13, in the 400- and 800-metre free.

Top eight finishes were recorded by Patrick Bonne, 12, Jennifer Dailey,14, Rayne Fisher,10, Chelsea Griswold, 13, Michael Lawrence, 10, Theo Theodossiou, 13, and Cait Tomlinson, 14.

Kellie Geiling and Adam Mossa, both 12, and Megan Stark, 8, all had perfect meets, with each registering all personal best times!

The next competition for SSMAC is the Ontario Provincial Division One Team Championships in Nepean on April 22-24.
