Algoma University College was celebrating the return of their gold medal-winning team on Monday.

Skip Matt Seabrook guided the first-year AUC Thunderbirds men's curling team to an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association championship on the weekend at the Glendale Curling Club in Hamilton.

Seabrook is joined by vice-skip Brad Jacobs, second Scott Seabrook and lead Andrew Silk under the tutelage of coach Ross Boston.

The gold medal performance marked the first ever championship for the school in OCAA competition.

The team finished the round robin competition with a perfect 6-0 record after wins against Algonquin, Confederation, Mohawk, Niagara, St. Clair and Sir Sanford Fleming.

On the second day of competition, Seabrook knocked off eventual silver medalist Algonquin College 7-4 and defeated two-time defending champion Confederation College, who went on to win the bronze medal, 8-6.

In other round robin action, Algoma defeated Mohawk 12-6, Niagara 14-7, Sir Sanford Fleming 8-6 and St. Clair 9-8.

In other divisions, Algonquin captured the women's gold while the host Mohawk College won the gold in mixed.
