Aggregate titles at city's cross country meet goes to St. Mary's College Knights

St. Mary's College has captures the aggregate title in the city's Cross Country meet.

Conditions were ideal when the Knights captured division titles in Novice and Junior Girls and Notice Boys.

For the first time in school history, St. Mary’s College has captured the aggregate title in the city’s Cross Country meet.

Under ideal conditions at Hiawatha Kinsmen Park, the Knights captured division titles in the Novice and Junior Girls, and Novice Boys events to claim the championship.

Girls Divisions

In the novice division, St. Mary’s Abigail Jaremko claimed the gold medal in the 4 kilometre race with a time of 17 minutes 41.45 seconds. Teammate Tru Toms took silver in 18:08.08. Also placing in the top ten for the Knights were Kaitlyn Atwell and Avery Pelletier as they claimed the team title. Bronze went to Korah’s Ayla Mazzuca with a time of 18:50.08. The Knights Keira Berlingieri placed fourth with a time of 18:50.52. Korah’s Aili Loumaranta finished fifth in 19:02.22.

In the junior division, Tori Carbone from St. Mary’s captured the gold with a time of 24 minutes 56.64 seconds over the 5 kilometre course. Emily Edgar, also from St. Mary’s was runner up in 25:35.02. Elizabeth Gavey and Lindsay Sarlo also finished in the top ten to help the Knights win the division. The bronze medal went to Helena Schoahs of Superior Heights with a time of 25:39.89 while teammate Anna Towle was fourth in 26:01.61. Korah’s Ahnika Davey placed fifth with a time of 27:00.80.

In the senior division, Hannah Heimonen of Superior Heights captured the gold with a time of 25:26.80 over the 6 kilometre course. Lucy LaFrance of Korah was second in 25:44.14 and her teammate Ella Haas third in 27:38.05. Celeste Schoahs from Superior Heights placed fourth in 28:33.52 while fifth place went to Korah’s Belen Henson in 28:37.67.

Boys Divisions

Five top ten finishers helped St. Mary’s College win the novice boys division. Ethan Agawa’s gold medal effort led the way. He covered the 4K course in 14 minutes, 59.89 seconds. Topher Barsanti of the Knights took the bronze in 16:41.14. In between, Peter Gartshore from Superior Heights claimed the silver medal with a time of 15:53.58. Top ten finishes by Joshua Lamming, Oliver Brown and Evan Stocks helped St. Mary’s take the team trophy. Finishing fourth was Deven Jones McDonald from Superior Heights in 16:41.42 while Korah’s Tate Turco was fifth in 16:45.42.

In the 5K junior division, Kiran Juma from St, Mary’s captured the gold medal with a time of 21 minutes, 43.36 seconds. Teammate Benjamin Norbo won the silver in 22:34.95. Grayson Pine from White Pines won the bronze in 23:01.11. Jesse Post from Korah came fourth in 23:50.80. The Colt's Lennon Turco was fifth in 24:23.30.

Korah captured the team title. Korah claimed the senior division team title by sweeping the top five placings. Dylan Garson captured gold in the 6K race with a time of 22 minutes:22.55 seconds. Noah Elkin took the silver in 22:35.64 and the bronze went to Micah Peake in 23:04.24. In fourth place was the Colt's Matthew Talvitie with a time of 23:29.39. Ben Suopera was fifth in 24:09.39.

The top five finishers and other competitors have qualified for the 2021 NOSSA Cross Country Championships to be held on St. Joseph Island on Wednesday, October 27th.
