************************* Motor vehicle collision fatality - Hwy 17

ESPANOLA, ON - Officers from the Espanola/Sudbury Detachment are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Hwy 17, west of Massey.

This happened on June 27, 2010, at approximately 9:30 p.m.

A 16-year-old male was driving his motorcycle westbound on Hwy 17.

At the same time an adult female was driving her Ford Ranger eastbound on Highway 17 when she pulled out to pass a slow-moving vehicle.

It appears the driver of the motorcycle tried to avoid a collision, lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected from the motorcycle.

The driver of the Ford Ranger saw the motorcycle, tried to avoid it and hit the driver.

This section of Highway 17 is straight, level without ambient light.

The weather was overcast, heavy mist, light rain and wind.

The highway was shut down from the time of the collision util 2:30 a.m. in the morning.

During this time period, a detour was set up for passenger vehicles.

After 2:30 a.m. one lane of the highway was open to traffic.

Officers are continuing their investigation with the assistance of Technical Traffic Collision Investigators and Collision Reconstructionists.
