Ontario is expanding educational opportunities for students at Sault College by supporting three major projects.

Through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, Ontario is investing to:

  • Create the new Institute for the Environment, Education and Entrepreneurship (iE3), allowing industry and academia to collaborate in areas of vital importance to the North, including Information and Communication Technology, and the management of forestry, water, wildlife and energy resources

  • Build a Centre for Studies in Early Learning and Care, a multi-faceted early childhood education, research and training institute that will include new child care spaces for local families

  • Develop a new 437-square-metre Waterfront and Tennis Centre for students and the community offering recreational facilities for tennis, rowing, kayaking and canoeing, and better facilities for course work.

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced the investments in Sault Ste. Marie as part of a visit to college and university campuses across the province.

Investing in post-secondary education infrastructure in the North is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.

QUOTES

"As Premier, it is my job to make sure that students in Ontario are prepared for today’s economy and job market, and our colleges and universities play an important role. With these investments, we are giving students in the North more access to skills and education that will set them up to succeed in Ontario’s workforce — one of the most skilled, and best educated, in North America."
 — Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario

"These investments at Sault College demonstrate Ontario’s continued commitment to funding infrastructure that will benefit communities, support students and advance economic development."
 — Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines, and Chair of the NOHFC

"Today’s NOHFC funding announcement is a significant investment in Sault College. This funding will help us to further enhance our facilities, programming, and overall educational experience. The ongoing support of the Provincial Government not only benefits our current and future students, but also our staff and community at large. We are very grateful for these contributions as they are helping to make our visions a reality."
 — Dr. Ron Common, President of Sault College
