This Thursday we will reach the statistical turning point for winter. Climatologically, Jan. 26 is the coldest day of the year with an average high temperature of -5.8C and an average low of -16.3C.

Every day beyond that statistically will be warmer and take us closer to spring. One could mistake this recent January thaw as that turning point, but ironically late Thursday we will see temperatures plummet back to seasonal values in time for the end of the week.

Morning fog will give way to isolated showers on Monday followed by light rain this evening. Temperatures will remain a couple of degrees above freezing. Rain changes to snow overnight as slightly cooler air moves into the region.

Tuesday will continue a very slow cooling trend with 4-6cm of scattered flurries through the day.

Light snow continues Wednesday morning with another 2-5cm with a risk of showers during the day as temperatures climb a couple of degrees above freezing.

Cold northwest winds arrive Thursday to usher in colder air and more seasonal weather on Friday and the coming weekend.
