Workweek Outlook: Unsettled and a little cool

Our current monthly average temperature for May is almost 5 degrees colder than normal
weather_weekday_outlook

So far in May, the Sault region has only counted one day above 20°C. I  went back through the last 30 years to see how often we usually climb above that threshold in May. It turns out that the climatological normal is nine days that it should be at or above 20°C this month. So we are certainly falling behind.

The only month I could find that only had one day above 20°C was 2008. In that year the average temperature was just over 2 degrees below normal values and one of the coldest Mays on record. Our current monthly average temperature for May is almost 5 degrees colder than normal!

With the forecast for the next week and a half starting to take shape, it's clear to see we aren't heading towards and hot trends. Instead, we will be lucky to hit 20°C at all for the rest of May - if this happens, we could be living through one of the coldest Mays on record. The shortened workweek ahead will try to climb back to normal temperatures for this time of year but will fall a little short.

Monday will be mostly sunny with a few cloudy periods around noon. Temperatures climb to near 17°C with a weak northwest breeze.

Tuesday will start with light rain in the morning that should come to an end in the afternoon and give way to some sunshine. Daytime highs should reach 13°C with gusty east winds.

Thursday will be sunny in the morning, and then the risk of thunderstorms arrives by noon as temperatures climb to near 17°C. Gusty northwest winds accompany the rain and continue into the evening.

Friday will also be sunny in the morning with clouds for the afternoon and the risk of evening thunderstorms. Daytime highs will be near 14°C.
