Katelynn Porcheron wins local Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Award

The Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area is pleased to announce that the winner for the Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Award is Katelynn Porcheron from St. Mary’s College.

The goal of the Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award Program is to encourage young women between the ages of 16 and 19 to participate in public affairs by recognizing a commitment to the volunteer sector and evidence of volunteer leadership achievements in their community.

“We received a number of applications for the local award from students in various high schools. The commitment to volunteer work and leadership in the St. Mary’s school community was clearly evident in Katelynn’s application. From her participation in the Me to We campaign, Heaven Cent, Christian Life Day and Link Crew at St. Mary’s College, we can see what an amazing example of volunteerism and leadership Katelynn is!” stated Elizabeth Kontschieder, president of the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area.

Katelynn’s application will now be forwarded for the Zonta District 15 competition which offers an award of $1,000 US.

Second place was awarded to Lindy Celetti from Sault College and Honourable Mention went to Olivia Keenan at Superior Heights.
