SOCAN Songwriter of the Year – "Singing Knives"
In the three short years since Kalle Wainio began writing songs under the pseudonym “Kalle Mattson,” the band has grown from a Dylan-influenced solo act into a full-on folk-rock quintet.
Two full-length albums (09's "Whisper Bee" and "11's Anchors"), song placement on Degrassi, showcases at CMW, NXNE, COCA & Ottawa Bluesfest and opening slots for The Wooden Sky, Cuff The Duke, Elliot Brood, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Josh Ritter, Blue Rodeo and more, Kalle Mattson has a very bright future ahead of them.
Screenwriter of the Year – Hugh Jackman Saves The World
Lee Chambers has been teaching in the film production program at Confederation College since 2005.
His screenplay nomination for Hugh Jackman Saves The World was produced in Australia with high school students as part of his annual award-winning Make It Short Film Project.
The event has attracted executive support from Academy Award winners and raised thousands of dollars for charity.
Lee is currently in the financing stage for The Pineville Heist, a feature thriller with one of the actors from the Twilight saga attached to star.
