Woman rescued from smoke-filled home (3 photos)

Crews search the home for fire and hot spots after rescue

A woman in a second-floor bedroom called 911 to report she was being overcome by smoke filling her bedroom, says Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service Platoon Chief Joe May.

"Police coaxed her out onto the porch roof," May said. "When our crews arrived, we got her off the roof."

A fire was found and extinguished in the basement of the home, which is located in the 100 block of Wallace Terrace.

The call came in about 1:15 a.m., said May.

Fire services had the fire out within about 45 minutes of the initial 911 call, shortly before 2 a.m., he said.

SooToday will have more information on this developing story when it becomes available.
