A 78-year-old woman suffered serious injuries today in a noon-hour accident in the core area.

Police report the woman's car was westbound on Wellington Street East at East Street when she lost control and hit two concrete flower boxes.

Her car continued and ran up a utility pole guy wire that caused it to flip over as shown here.

The driver was taken by ambulance to hospital with serious injuries.

A family member tells SooToday that she has since been transferred to hospital in Thunder Bay.

Police are withholding her name until all next-of-kin have been notified.

Police suspect the driver may have suffered illness at the time of the accident.

SooToday regrets a flippant and inappropriate headline associated with our earlier coverage of this accident.
