Why you may just see Andrea Horwath at some of this weekend's Bon Soo events

The NDP leader is in town until Sunday in support of local byelection candidate Joe Krmpotich

Provincial NDP leader Andrea Horwath is in town until Sunday, in support of local byelection candidate Joe Krmpotich.

Her flight delayed slightly by weather, Horwath attended the Civic Centre lobby this morning to sign a book of condolences for the victims of the attack on a Quebec City mosque late last month.

A customized book of condolences was provided by Arthur Funeral Home, which has a matching book at its Wellington Street East location, while flowers for the display were provided by Tamar’s Trends said Lisa Bell, assistant to the mayor.

After the signing, Krmpotich and city staff led Horwath and Algoma—Manitoulin—Kapuskasing MPP Mike Mantha on a tour of the Civic Centre, including the offices of the mayor and CAO and council chambers.

Horwath noted she once held a city council position in her hometown of Hamilton.

The NDP leader is in town until Sunday and plans to take in a number of Bon Soo and other events over the weekend.

She'll be the second provincial leader to sidle up to Mr. Bon Soo during a campaign stop this month. PC leader Patrick Brown and local candidate Ross Romano performed a tandem plunge during last weekend's polar bear swim.

Krmpotich was recently nominated by acclamation to stand for the NDP in a yet-to-be-called byelection to replace David Orazietti, who quit provincial politics Dec. 31, 2016 after serving 13 years as MPP for the riding of Sault Ste. Marie.

There is, as of yet, no Liberal candidate.
