Why on earth were school buses running on Friday?

They were carrying computers, not kids

So with all the local schools closed by a scary pandemic, why were all those school buses driving around on Friday afternoon?

A faithful SooToday reader emailed us, demanding we find out.

It turns out those First Student Canada buses weren't carrying kids.

They were delivering electronic devices and other tech paraphernalia needed by some Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board students to start online learning next week.

Steve Fratesi from the Algoma Huron-Superior Transportation Services bussing consortia tells us about a dozen drivers offered to bus the technology to homes requiring it.

Families were phoned in advance and the packages were dropped at curbside, ensuring no physical contact.

Next, the drivers will be making food deliveries to students from both Catholic schools and Algoma District School Board, as organized by Algoma Family Services, Fratesi told us.
