Who's up for some haggis? (6 photos)

Robert Burns Dinner celebrates one of Scotland's most prolific poets

The haggis has been piped in and blessed.

A series of toasts - and shots - ensue.

For the 260 or so people gathered at the Marconi Saturday night, it was an evening of food, song and dance to celebrate a legendary poet.

“This is a celebration of Scotland and the poet Robert Burns,” said Catherine MacLeod of MacLeod Highland Dance Studio. “So we, because we’re the MacLeod Highland Dance Studio, we want to present our dancers as well.”

The dance studio has been hosting the annual Robert Burns Dinner & Ceilidh for about 20 years now as a way of showing off its dancers by teaching them a number of traditional and social Scottish dances.

“I’m here trying to teach the community and the young kids coming up about the heritage of Scotland,” said MacLeod.

Similar dinners celebrating the Scottish poet generally happen around the world during this time of year.
