NEWS RELEASE

ALGOMA DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

*************************
Earlier today, White Pines was in a hold and secure due to a threat made to the school through social media. City of Sault Ste. Marie Police responded and were on site at the school.

This hold and secure has been lifted as a suspect, who was not on White Pines property, has been apprehended and is in police custody. Students will be taking their full lunch and classes will resume on a shortened scheduled with regular dismissal.

Counsellors and staff will be made available to students who may need support following this situation.

For reference purposes, in a hold and secure situation, outside doors remain locked, students are kept indoors and parents/guardians and community members are not able to enter or exit the school to ensure safety of all school community members.

The Algoma District School Board thanks parents/guardians, students and staff for their understanding and patience.
