Oh! Oh! Oh! - They're talking about you, Sault Ste. Marie!
The blogosphere is positively buzzing today with news of City Council's resolution encouraging every Saultite to go to Kissonline.com and vote to bring KISS to the Essar Centre.
Two prominent headlines on the band's official website today link to SooToday.com stories.
"Bring KISS to Sault Ste. Marie - City Council votes for KISS," reads one.
"KISS 'sick and revolting'???? Councillor opposes KISS appearance," reads the other.
And music fans worldwide are discussing Ward 2 Councillor Susan Myers' comments today about Gene Simmons.
The following is a sampling of comments posted today on Blabbermouth.net, which describes itself as "the CNN of heavy metal and hard rock news."
We've also included a very special announcement we received about an appearance by Councillor Myers tomorrow night as a celebrity server at Boston Pizza. ************************* From Blabbermouth.net
"LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL. Is that the worst Sault Ste. Marie has seen?" - MetelDik
"I'd love to see her reaction if a Norwegian black metal fest pitched up in her small town. She'd probably be more appalled than I would be (and rightfully so)." - Slaughteroth.
"The city has hosted Behemoth! And Kiss is a shock? What - are you kidding me? Years ago a band lit a stage, and trunk on fire, that contained their lead singer! Later members of that band went on to form Woods of Ypres. Some people just need to learn that there exists life outside of pop music and Disney films." - Orthae
"Sixty-year-old Jewish men in heels and makeup, with wigs. Exactly what is revolting? I find the farce called KISS humorous." - Bigbuciach
"What is more joyful and uplifting then the hottest band in the world coming to town....She will not be elected next time in this great city of ours." - Italiandomino "The band sets up their gear in an enclosed arena and the only people who get to see the 'sick and revolting' show are the ones who pay for tickets. If you don't want to see the show it is your right....What's sick and revolting is this person has managed to get herself elected to public office and feels she has the right to decide what sort of entertainment you can enjoy. I say anyone that votes for a... witch-hunter like this may want to invite her to their home and let her go through their books, magazines, and DVDs to see if there's anything she finds 'sick and revolting' so she can remove them....In the year 2009 there are still people like this who get elected to positions of power." - shattered73
"email@example.com. Tell her you've got something 'joyful and uplifting' for her. lol. I'm sure Gene already has." - JJJB
************************* Councillor Myers to appear as celebrity server at Boston Pizza
I am e-mailing you right now , to let you know of a great fundraiser we, are putting on this coming Wednesday night, April 29.
This year, A&P (Metro) has teamed up with Boston Pizza to enter the 9th Annual Canadian Cancer Society 12-Hour Relay for Life.
With us teaming up, as a bigger team, we are focusing together, as a bigger community supporter to the Relay for Life, with more fundraising activities, than we have done in prior years, as just A&P.
So, with this, this coming Wednesday night, April 29 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., we as a team are taking over Boston Pizza restaurant with a fundraiser called "Celebrity Server Night." We have gathered up members of Sault Ste. Marie to take on the roles of a restaurant waiter, waitress, greeter and host, to serve the community of Sault Ste. Marie for a fun-filled night in support of such a great cause.
We have confirmed, right now, Susan Myers from City Council, James Warner-Smith from EZ-Rock 100.5, a few players from the Sault Steelers Championship team, and also along with team members with the A&P(Metro)/ Boston Pizza Relay for Life Team to be guest servers at this event.
We, also will have Ms. Emily Gair, the 2009 spokesperson for the Relay for Life, attending the event as a volunteer , to help make this night a great success!
With this event, Boston Pizza will donate 10 percent of the total profits brought in from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., to the Canadian Cancer Society 12-Hour Relay for Life.
So with this David, I was wondering if you can post on the news section to invite everyone up to Boston Pizza, on Wednesday night, for this event from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and also invite yourself, and fellow staff of SooToday.co, to come up for dinner, and help us support this fundraiser. Thanks a lot for the time and consideration on this!! Jim Ellis Jr. Special Events Co-Ordinator A&P/Metro # 395 Churchill Plaza Sault Ste. Marie
