HURON-SUPERIOR CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) has announced new principal and vice-principal assignments at four schools for the 2014-15 school year.

Michaela Sheehan has accepted the permanent position as Principal of St. Joseph French Immersion Catholic School in Wawa after serving as Acting Principal for the past school year.

The permanent position became open following the retirement of Ann Magner.

“Michaela did a tremendous job over the past year and we are pleased that she has accepted the position at St. Joseph French Immersion. Her energy and enthusiasm has had a very positive effect on the school community,” said HSCDSB Director of Education, John Stadnyk.

“I am very excited to be named principal at St. Joseph. I had the privilege this past year to be Acting Principal and was able to build rapport with a dynamic staff, school council and community. I am going to enjoy strengthening those relationships and working with St. Monica Parish. I look forward to fulfilling the Board's Mission Statement, of creating a ‘Catholic Learning Community called and committed to develop the full potential of each child and to nurture a personal relationship with Jesus that will inspire Catholic leadership’,” said Sheehan.

In Chapleau, the new Principal of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School is Natalie Tessier, who is replacing the retiring Maria Salazar.

Mrs. Tessier is currently the Resource Teacher at École secondaire catholique Trillium.

The Sudbury native has been a resident of Chapleau since 2000 and has been involved in various community organizations as a volunteer.

“Natalie will be a great addition to the Our Lady of Fatima school community. As a current resident of Chapleau, she is well aware of the school and community dynamic. She will have big shoes to fill in replacing Maria Salazar, but we’re confident the transition will be seamless,” said Stadnyk.

“I am looking forward to becoming a part of the school family. Our Lady of Fatima has a reputation in the community of being a warm and welcoming school environment, where the student needs take first priority," said Tessier.

In Sault Ste. Marie, Frank Guzzo has accepted the position of Vice-Principal at St. Paul Catholic School.

Mr. Guzzo began his teaching career with the Board in 1998; he has spent the past seven years as an Assistive Technology Resource Teacher in the Special Education Department.

He takes over for Corey Gardi, who has been re-assigned as Vice-Principal at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School.

“I look forward to working with students, parents and staff at St. Paul next year. It is a pleasure to join a school community so committed to Catholic education and values,” said Guzzo.

Gardi remarked, “I thank everyone at St. Paul for their support and now look ahead to help to build a strong school community at Our Lady of Lourdes as it enters a new era.”

All appointments take effect September 1, 2014.
