CARMEN PROVENZANO NEWS RELEASE

************************* Provenzano announces HRSDC funding for Pauline's Place

Carmen Provenzano, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, is pleased to announce funding in the amount of Forty Thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty Two Dollars ($40,862) for another Job Creation Partnership Program (JCP) initiative in Sault Ste. Marie.

Pauline's Place Youth Shelter, recipient of this financial support, will use this money to hire two unemployed EI eligible individuals for a period of thirty-seven weeks each.

The Shelter will use these funds to hire an Administrative Assistant, who will be instrumental in developing office management strategies to increase efficiency in Shelter operations.

A Fundraiser, primarily responsible for researching and developing short term and long term fundraising strategies to increase the sustainability of the Shelter, will also be hired

"These federal programs are specifically designed to get EI eligible persons off the EI recipient rolls, and at the same time, to provide these individuals with real on the job experiences," says Provenzano.

"This program makes good financial sense, no matter how you measure the results," he added.

Pauline's Place is a Shelter for homeless young people, male and female, between the ages of 16 to 21.

The Shelter opened its doors this past Monday (May 3, 2004) and residents have already been admitted to the program. All staff hired to date are unemployed persons. The Shelter is committed not only to housing displaced young people, but also to provide employment opportunities to qualified staff. In addition to this funding, Pauline's Place Youth Shelter has also hired five youth workers under another federal wage subsidiary program administered by the Community Development Corporation.

"Both I and the members of the Board of Directors for Pauline's Place Youth Shelter thank HRSDC for its support and financial assistance, which is greatly needed and appreciated," said Judy Armstrong McKay, Executive Director for Pauline's Place Non Profit Homes Inc.
