The Sault and area has its first baby of the New Year.
Lizette Donna Caroline Gingras was born at Sault Area Hospital at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday January 1, 2013, to happy mom, 23-year-old Brooke Wesley and proud dad, 39-year-old Dave Gingras.
Lizette, weighing an even six pounds and measuring 19 and a half inches long, is a truly beautiful and healthy little baby, and was sleeping peacefully on Lizette’s hospital bed when SooToday.com visited the family late this morning.
Brooke was about to be released from hospital when SooToday.com arrived.
Lizette is Brooke’s second child, and fifth for Dave.
Brooke said she felt “a little tired,” but eager to get home to Lizette’s two-year-old sister, Binogii-kwe Gingras.
Lizette’s arrival was a pleasant surprise, as Brooke and Dave were expecting a January 8 birth date.
Brooke told us: “We had just finished all our New Year’s phone calls, then it was time to go.”
The couple set out from Goulais River at 1:15 a.m. and it took approximately two hours to get to SAH.
“It was a pretty stormy night to get down here,” Dave said.
“Everything went smoothly. I knew what to do because I’ve been here before,” Brooke chuckled, adding Dr. Bahaa Awwad and the hospital team were “awesome.”
Lizette is named after Dave’s grandmother, while Donna was Dave’s mother’s name, and Caroline is Brooke’s grandmother’s name.
“New Year’s Day will always be a big day for us for sure,” Dave said.
Brooke said the family was looking forward to going home, where Brooke said: “we’ll be having lots of company and a big dinner.”
From all of us at SooToday.com to Lizette, Brooke, Dave and Binogii-kwe: “Happy birthday, and congratulations! We wish all of you all the best!”
