Weekend Outlook: Winds bring a cool Canada Day weekend

Despite the sun, we won't be able to shake that cool northeast wind and will see daytime highs a couple of degrees cooler than normal

Once the rain and clouds move out of the region on Thursday, we should see skies clear for most of this long weekend.

However, despite the sun, we won't be able to shake that cool northwest wind that has dominated the Sault area weather this Spring and the start of summer. As a result, we will see daytime highs a couple of degrees cooler than normal for early July.

There are two areas of concern in this weekend's forecast. The first is the overnight lows Saturday night that will fall well into the single digits by Sunday morning.

As a result, we will be close to a frost risk, but hopefully, surrounding lakes will keep temperatures high enough to avoid that. The other concern is Sunday's weather - a threat that clouds and thunder does exist that could interrupt the otherwise sunny weekend.

Several waves of rain move across the region on Thursday, along with slightly warmer and more humid air. Temperatures climb to near 25°C, with gusty south winds throughout the day. The first wave of activity arrives in the morning; the second wave should be early in the afternoon and the final wave around sunset.

The pesky northwest wind returns for Canada Day under clearing skies to keep daytime highs near 21°C. Temperatures quickly cool to the low teens this evening for the fireworks.

The cool wind continues Saturday under mostly sunny skies and temperatures near 20°C. There is some uncertainty around Sunday as we ride the line between sunshine and scattered thunderstorms. Either way, it appears that daytime highs continue to linger near 20°C.
