Weekend Outlook: When weather patterns turn unpredictable

The only thing certain this weekend is that Sunday will cool off

Modern-day weather forecast computer models do a remarkable job creating accurate outlooks for obvious surface weather features like warm and cold fronts.  Where they struggle is in situations where the surface weather is heavily influenced by conditions aloft in the upper atmosphere.

The last couple days and this weekend are good examples of just that.  It becomes very difficult to get the probability and timing of precipitation right in these situations.

The only thing certain this weekend is that Sunday will cool off.  The timing and placement of precipitation (and maybe a storm) on both days this weekend is very uncertain so keep an eye to the sky, and I'll do my best to try and figure it all out.

Friday will start out sunny, but then a few clouds move in during the late afternoon and evening.  Daytime highs will reach into the upper 20s with a light westerly breeze.

Saturday will bring a mix of sun and cloud all day with highs in the mid-20s and light winds out of the south-east. There is the slight risk of a thundershower east of the city along the North Shore during the late afternoon and evening. More widespread showers are possible around midnight that will continue overnight.

Sunday brings some rain and scattered storms as temperatures fall back to the low 20s. Summer-like weather returns for the start of next week with lots of sunshine and seasonal temperatures.
