Weekend Outlook: What happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas

A mix of sun and scattered flurries arrive on Friday with temperatures hopefully breaking above the freezing mark for the first time in over a month

A winter storm that brought significant snow to Las Vegas and Arizona will track through the American Midwest and into the Sault region this weekend.  The storm will strengthen enough that strong winds may end up being the main concern.  There will be times early Sunday morning and then again Sunday afternoon where gusts could reach 80km/h.  Along with all this wind, we are likely to see a wintry mess of precipitation with ice pellets, freezing rain, rain and snow all in the mix.

We could see some light snow and freezing drizzle Saturday morning and then afternoon clouds as daytime highs climb to near 0°C. The winter storm arrives in the evening with ice pellets, freezing rain and possibly some rain that will continue overnight along with gusty east winds.

The wind will shift to the northwest on Sunday morning, and this will usher in colder air.  Any remaining precipitation will transition over to snow.   Wind speeds of 30 to 50 km/h, gusting over 65km/h, will combine with 4-6cm of blowing snow to bring potential whiteout conditions on local highways. Temperatures will be above freezing in the morning and then quickly fall through the day.

Colder than normal weather settles in for next week and could linger right into the start of March.
