The coldest morning recorded this winter so far came on January 29 when the mercury dropped to -25°C.

There have been four other days where the temperatures dropped below minus twenty but other than that it’s been an easy winter.

This weekend may very well end up being the coldest of this entire winter as cold arctic air moves over Northern Ontario.

Friday will see some intense snow early in the day as an arctic cold front pushes in from the north.

By the afternoon the Sault region will see the effects of that front as temperatures begin to fall.

Brisk north wind will send windchill values down near -30°C by sunset.

Saturday brings bone chilling morning lows with some locations likely to close in on -30°C.

Even though the odd sunny break is possible, the sun will not overcome the cold as daytime highs will be 10-15 degrees below seasonal values.

Sunday does begin a slow warming trend as a little more sun arrives.

Temperatures remain below normal but a southerly breeze does push daytime highs up to near -10°C.

Family Day will see clouds and light snow move into the region.

With the active weather we should see warmer temperatures return and climb back up to near the freezing mark and put the coldest temperature of this winter behind us.
