Forest fire situation update - Northeast Region
 
October 2, 2012 (3:30 p.m. EDT)
 
New fires
 
No new fires have been confirmed in the Northeast Region today by the time of this report.

Existing fires
 
A 1.6-hectare fire near Wanup was confirmed during the evening of October 1.

Sudbury fire number 208 required suppression action from the air with a CL-415 water bomber and a helicopter.

FireRangers are providing suppression action from the ground on the fire, which is currently classed as under control.

No issues are anticipated with this fire.
 
Existing fires continue to be actioned and monitored.
 
Ministry of Natural Resources personnel assisting out-of-province
 
Thirty-three personnel from Ontario continue to work in Alberta to assist that province in managing its fire hazard.
 
Regional fire activity facts
 
There are seven active fires in the Northeast Region burning a total of 41,676 hectares.

To date, 944 fires in the Northeast Region have burned 53,915.8 hectares.
 
To report a forest fire north of the French River, please call 310-FIRE (3473). 

In southern regions, forest fires can be reported by calling your local fire department.
