Was Black Friday worth it? (6 photos)

'Oh, yeah!' Sault shoppers say

SooToday visited Station Mall Friday morning to ask shoppers if they had taken advantage of Black Friday deals offered by local merchants.

The answer seemed to be ‘yes,’ (despite the lure of shopping in the States or online, especially with Cyber Monday approaching) as the Bay Street shopping centre was more hustle and bustle than usual, many shoppers walking through the mall using both arms to carry large amounts of merchandise and telling us how much money they had saved.

“I bought a lot, actually,” grinned Stacy Van Scoy, who purchased several products at the Body Shop, as did fellow Body Shop customer Sarah Wilding.

“I definitely saved money,” Wilding said.

“I’m more of an online shopper personally, but I did enjoy coming here and seeing everyone and you can definitely feel the Christmas spirit,” said Aja Notte, who treated herself to a new pair of pyjamas and other items.

“We just put it all in the cart. We went to Canadian Tire and they had really good sales, and we bought a lot of kitchen equipment, like mixers,” said Amanda Dubois after she and her sister Sarah treated themselves to cheese at Station Mall’s Hickory Farms.

“The exchange rate with the American dollar is kind of bad, so it adds up,” Amanda said.

“Oh yeah, it’s worth it. I saved $300 and Amanda saved $300,” Sarah smiled.

“We got Christmas gifts, toys for our great-grandchildren. We saved about $100, so it was a good deal,” said Andy Guay, accompanied by his wife Reta Guay.

“For the things I had to get, it was worth it. Once I got here, I started buying more, like a tablet, Christmas decorations and clothes, and got myself a shirt, ordered some specially-made jewellery,” said Renee Poitras, both hands full of shopping bags and a smile on her face.

“All my Christmas shopping’s done,” beamed Sasha Gibbons, who purchased toys, clothes, books and calendars, estimating she saved 40 per cent on her purchases Friday.

“It’s worth it to stay home and shop in Canada and help the Canadian economy,” Gibbons said.

“It was worth it because I found products I needed, and I actually bought myself a birthday gift, a cookbook that I had wanted for a long time,” said Hannah-Lee Lawrence, who travelled in to town from the North Shore to take advantage of Black Friday.

“We always find some good deals and buy some Christmas and birthday gifts. Black Friday makes it quite worthwhile to stay and shop on the Canadian side,” said Don Ableson.
