Prospective students invited to LSSU for annual Fall Fling

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - There's still time for prospective students to register for Lake Superior State University's annual Fall Fling Open House, October 27, an event that will give students a feel for what LSSU has to offer.

Registration is open until the date of the open house, but prospective students who are interested in getting free tickets to the LSSU/Michigan State University hockey game at the end of the day should register by October 19.

The event coincides with LSSU's Great Lake State Weekend and "Boo in the Soo."

"During the open house, prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to experience LSSU firsthand through a variety of activities that encompass several aspects of the LSSU experience," said Ruth Ransom, assistant director of Admissions. "Additionally, we will be waiving all application fees for students who submit their applications for admission during the event."

Students and parents will kick off their visit with a welcome session in the Arts Center, where they will hear from LSSU President Tony McLain, Student Government President Ramsey A've, and recipient of this year's LSSU Young Alumnus Award,  Holly Benjamin.

Prospective students will also receive information on the step-by-step process of admissions and financial aid.

After the welcome session, students and families will head for an academic showcase and have the opportunity to view residence halls.

The showcase, which will be presented by department faculty, chairs and deans, will provide a chance to get a feel for the many academic programs offered at LSSU.

Later, during an activities fair, university-recognized clubs and organizations will meet with students and answer any questions they may have.

In conjunction with the fair, there will be guided tours and a barbeque, lasting up to the Laker hockey game, which will give prospective students and their families a chance to talk with current students, staff, and faculty in a relaxed, informal environment.
