Looking for a summer job?

The deadline to register for Summer Company is fast approaching.

The youth entrepreneurship program provides students with $3,000 grants to start their own seasonal business.

With limited space, applications must be submitted by Friday, May 23.

To register, or for additional information, visit www.ontario.ca/summercompany.

Summer Company is administered in the region by the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation (SSMEDC).

Its goal is to teach youth the ins and outs of entrepreneurship.

In many cases, participants turn their businesses into full-time, year-round operations, which speaks to the success of the program.

“Not only can Summer Company help students find employment, it also allows them to delve into the world of entrepreneurship,” said Kendall Scott, Youth Development Coordinator for the SSMEDC. “And it’s done in an environment that fosters very little risk. The program allows youth to try their hand at self-employment, and it has the potential to lead to a lifetime of success in entrepreneurship.”

Summer Company is open to people between the ages of 15 and 29 who are returning to school.

The program is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment.

For more information, contact Kendall Scott at 705-759-2616 or [email protected], or visit www.ontario.ca/summercompany.
