VIDEO: Emotional ceremony marks Overdose Awareness Day

Local residents killed by toxic drugs were honoured by loved ones Wednesday at the Civic Centre’s Memorial Wall

Dozens of residents came together for an emotional ceremony at the Civic Centre on Wednesday to mark this year’s International Overdose Awareness Day.

Families and loved ones of overdose victims gathered around the Memorial Wall to pay tribute to those they’ve lost. Several residents offered heartbreaking speeches, while mayor Christian Provenzano and members of SOYA (Save Our Young Adults) shared some words to commemorate the day.

Following the ceremony, attendees walked over to the Bondar Pavilion for a free barbecue and information sessions provided by several community agencies.
