VIDEO: 2016 Pine Plaza crash that left Paul VanderGriendt a quadriplegic

SooToday cautions that the following security-camera video may be too intense for some readers

A nine-man, three-woman jury viewed dramatic evidence video Thursday of a 2016 crash in the Pine Plaza parking lot.

The video shows a GMC pickup operated by Nicholas Robert Berto, running over Paul VanderGriendt, who was rendered quadriplegic.

It was recorded by a security camera at Food Basics, facing The Harp Bar and Grill.

The following video shows the headlights on Berto's truck turning on in the parking lot.

The pickup then lunges toward a closing-time crowd outside The Harp, stopping just short of the group.

It then makes a sharp right turn, striking and running over VanderGriendt.

The truck then immediately leaves the scene, accelerating rapidly across the parking lot.

Friends and acquaintances then rush to the assistance of VanderGriendt, who is left lying on the pavement.

SooToday cautions that this evidence video shows a traumatic event that may be too intense for some readers.
