Victim suffers serious injuries in Chapleau assault

CHAPLEAU - On August 10, 2016 at around 2 a.m., the Chapleau Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to assist the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at an address on Derek Street where an assault had occurred involving four adults.

Investigation determined that during an altercation between the individuals, the accused used a knife to injure one of the victims, a 34-year-old male. 

This male was transported to a local hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. 

He remains in hospital in stable condition.  

The other two involved individuals, a 33-year-old male and a 29-year-old female, were also [allegedly] assaulted with the knife but did not sustain any injuries.

As a result of the investigation, 34-year-old Clayton Quakegesic, who is from Chapleau, has been charged with the following offences:

    •    Assault with a weapon, (two counts), contrary to Section 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Aggravated Assault, contrary to Section 268 of the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Assault, contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on August 15, 2016.
