Three new inspectors will be assigned to U.S. Customs Services in Soo, Michigan, the Detroit News is reporting today.

The newspaper quotes Congressman Joseph Knollenberg as saying the additional inspectors will help relieve traffic congestion as cars and trucks enter Michigan from Canada.

Knollenberg said 78 new inspectors are being assigned to Detroit, and 16 to Port Huron.

The Detroit Free Press, meanwhile, is reporting that most of the new inspectors assigned to the state will be new hires, to be phased in later this year.
