SAULT STE MARIE, MI — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations has started upgrading the operational functionality of their primary inspection booths at the Sault Ste. Marie Port of Entry.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the construction schedule has been extended by one week and, starting at 6 p.m. on May 31, the entire lower plaza will be closed.

CBP is asking that travelers pay close attention to both the electronic signage and stop lights as they cross the bridge: other vehicle barriers will be used to completely close the lower plaza as well.

“Project delays happen. We’ve made adjustments to the project schedule to ensure we have all our lanes available during Memorial Day weekend,” stated Patrick Wilson, Port Director.

The new completion date for this project is June 3, 2016.
