U.S. attacks suspected al Qaeda targets

Reports from some American networks say a U.S. aerial gunship has attacked what are believed to be al Qaeda targets in southern Somalia. A senior Pentagon official told CCN.com that an AC-130 flew the mission within the past 24 hours.

Reports from some American networks say a U.S. aerial gunship has attacked what are believed to be al Qaeda targets in southern Somalia.

A senior Pentagon official told CCN.com that an AC-130 flew the mission within the past 24 hours.

Intelligence reports had pointed to the presence of Al Qaeda operatives in the target area.

It is not known if terrorists are among the reported casualties.

The Pentagon source added that an American aircraft carrier is close enough to Somalia to launch additional attacks.
