The Bayview Recreation Committee still hasn't found an insurer for its Mike Zuke Memorial Park, but the volunteers aren't ready to close the doors on the rink just yet.

As of 4:30 this afternoon, their broker at Gord Royle Insurance had been unsuccessful in finding a company willing to provide liability coverage on the popular outdoor ice rink.

However, Bayview Recreation Committee President John Harris tells SooToday.com that another possible solution has surfaced.

Margaret Hazelton of the City's Recreation and Culture Division has suggested that the rink operators ask City Council to put them under the City insurance policy, said Harris.

The committee plans to keep trying to find affordable insurance.

If that search doesn't succeed by Monday, Council will be asked to include the Zuke rink in the City's coverage, Harris said.

The committee is also stepping up its fund-raising efforts.

"Yesterday someone dropped off a kit for selling chocolate bars and cookie dough at my place," Harris told SooToday.com.

Harris says his volunteers are geared up and ready to go.

He says he has faith that something will come up to keep the rink open this winter.

"We're not ready to pack it in until we've tried every last option."
