Last night, SooToday reported that a notice of vacant possession had been posted at PUC's old C.J. Murphy building at 510 Second Line East, next door to PUC headquarters.
Today, we received further information about that from Giordan Zin, PUC's supervisor of customer engagement.
Zin tells us that PUC sold the property on Oct. 12, 2016, to 1927558 Ontario Inc., on the basis of a vendor takeback mortgage.
"This mortgage has fallen into default and PUC Services Inc. obtained possession by way of a power-of-sale proceeding," Zinn says.
PUC is expected to now offer the site for sale.
510 Second Line East was originally listed for sale by PUC in February, 2012.
At one point, Amit Sofer's Algoma Medicinal Alliance was hoping to use the building to grow medical marijuana.
That idea was quickly dropped in January 2015 after Dr. Kim Barker resigned as chief executive officer and medical officer of health at Algoma Public Health and advised Health Canada she was no longer involved in the legal grow-op bid.
In 2016, spokepersons for The Tech told SooToday that they wanted to lease the building to provide custom trades training and possibly some light manufacturing.
Our story last night reported that Reliance Home Comfort has signed a lease to occupy about 5,100 square feet of the former PUC Trbovich site next door at 550 Second Line East.
