Update: Armed police tactical unit enters home on St. Georges Avenue (10 photos)

Police show up in an armoured vehicle, at least one arrest made

An armed police tactical unit entered a home on St. Georges Avenue East Thursday morning in an incident that led to at least one arrest.

At around 11:15 a.m., Sault Ste. Marie Police Service(SSMPS) blocked off St. Georges Avenue between North Street and Walnut Street as a ballistic armoured tactical transport (BATT) vehicle parked in the driveway of a house located in the 100 block of St. George's Avenue.

Several armed officers of the police Emergency Services Unit exited the vehicle before entering the home as one officer held a gun on the home from a position out of the top hatch of the BATT.

Other police officers surrounded the house from the alleyway behind the house.

Constable Sonny Spina said the officers involved were executing a search warrant.

Several vehicles that appeared to be unmarked police vehicles were on scene and multiple people were observed to be taken into custody.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has not released any further details on the incident.
