Unplanned power outage leaves downtown west area in the dark (update: restored)

11:30 a.m. update:
Power was been restored to all customers at 11:07 a.m. It was determined that the outage was caused by equipment failure.

If you are still without power, please call the PUC at 705-759-6555.

Original 10:50 a.m. story:
A news release issued today reports that 669 PUC Distribution customers are currently without power.

The unplanned power interruption began at 10:17 a.m. in the areas of Huron Street east to Tancred Street, and Edinburgh Lane south to Queen Street.

The cause of the outage is unknown.

PUC reminds all of our customers:
    •    Downed wires should always be considered energized or "live", and extremely dangerous
    •    Do not approach or drive over a downed power line and do not touch anything the power line may be in contact with
    •    Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about powerline safety and the dangers that can be associated with power lines
    •    Take all the necessary safety precautions during a power outage
