Less than a week before its members vote on a contract offer, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) is planning a lunch-hour information rally in front of the Sault Courthouse on Wednesday.

"This rally is being held to make the public aware that the current negotiations being held for 45,000 employees of the Ontario Public Service are not only about getting a fair contract for public service workers, but about rebuilding the public service in an effort to ensure that tragedies such as Walkerton never happen again," said local organizer Beth Anich.

OPSEU has about 800 members in the Soo, working at places including the Courthouse, the Sault Jail, Community and Social Services, Northern Treatment Centre and the Ministry of the Environment.

A province-wide vote on the government's offer will take place Feb. 26, 27 and 28.

The union's bargaining teams are asking members to reject the offer.
